Top 3 free family activities at the Myrtle Beach Aquarium

The Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach is a great place to take your family in the off-season, rainy days, or even extra hot summer days in Myrtle Beach, SC. While the aquarium costs money to enter, you can spend even more money on activities once you’re inside. However, you don’t have to break the bank since there are plenty of free things to do once your inside, and I’ll describe 3 free family activities below.

My wife and I enjoy family vacations and were in Myrtle Beach, SC looking for something fun to do on a rainy day and decided to check out the Myrtle Beach aquarium. We thought our 6-month old would enjoy it, but we didn’t realize how much he would enjoy it. However, a funny thing happened, we were amazed, as well. It has been years since I went to a water zoo, but it felt like being a kid all over again. Touching the jellyfish, smelling the horseshoe crabs, visiting the different habitats, and gluing my face to the 2-inch thick plexiglass as sharks, rays, and octopuses swam by. The multi-colored amphibians, fish, and coral danced in my camera’s lens daring me to take photos from different angles. We went to entertain my baby, but instead, we were the ones who left in wonderment. I can’t wait to visit my next aquarium.

With that said, the top 3 free family activities to do at the Myrtle Beach aquarium are:

  1. Ride the underwater aquarium conveyer belt. Watching sharks, rays and octopus swim all around you as a mermaid waves hello is both magical and frightening.
  2. Touch a horseshoe crab. Your kids will love to touch, feel, and smell these horseshoe crabs. The lines usually aren’t too long and it will give your child a unique experience.
  3. See the jellyfish. This one isn’t just for the kids. These jellyfish are electric, memorizing, and dazzling. You and your kids will be in a trance watching these sea creatures dance around the water. You won’t want to miss it!

If you have a free day or half-day, a rainy day, or a very hot and humid day, I would recommend checking out the Myrtle Beach aquarium. Your young child, or the young child within you, won’t regret it!
